Who we need

Reporting to the Dean, Associate Dean or Program Chair, the Faculty is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, designing learning activities and assessing student performance, in alignment with our mission of championing student success. 

What you will do

  • Teaches undergraduate and/or graduate courses in specific Bachelor of Creative Arts program area, designing course materials, and facilitating learning that align with course, program and institutional learning outcomes and requirements. 
  • Provides students with timely, constructive, and individualized feedback and evaluates learning using a variety of effective assessment mechanisms.  
  • Completes administrative requirements according to established timelines, such as taking and reporting attendance, and submission of in-progress and final grades. 
  • Provides students with timely information and guidance by holding regular office hours, responding to questions, and recommending additional program, campus, and institutional supports and services as appropriate. 
  • Implements inclusive teaching practices that anticipate, value, and respond to the diversity of learner needs and experiences. 
  • Engages students in authentic learning opportunities that enable them to demonstrate our Signature Learning Outcomes (SLOs).  
  • Supervises and mentors students on research projects, where applicable. 
  • Uses the institution’s learning management system, educational technologies, email service, and other digital resources to support teaching and learning while abiding by security and privacy practices. 
  • Engages in reflective practice and on-going professional development, leveraging information from various sources, including SEOCs and culture surveys, to identify areas for growth as an educator. 
  • Cooperates with administrators and colleagues to advance program, campus, and institutional priorities. 
  • Contributes to curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, quality assurance processes, SLOs and other university initiatives, individually and/or by committee. 
  • Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues including, but not limited to academic and student services, learning design, and the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Innovation, to support student success. 
  • Attends and contributes productively to meetings and other program, campus, and institution-wide governance and events. 
  • Builds connections to business, industry and community in ways that support the program and its students. 
  • Maintains accreditation/licensure as appropriate.  
  • Pursues professional development and scholarly activities to enhance teaching practice and maintain disciplinary currency. 
  • Upholds university policies, fulfills employee obligations and trainings, and complies with relevant legislation. 
  • Acts as a YU/TFS ambassador through our core values, distinctive capabilities, and SLOs. 

What you bring

  • Earned PhD, MFA or equivalent terminal degree from a recognized/accredited institution in a creative field (professional accreditation, as applicable) 
  • A commitment to student success and demonstrated experience in post-secondary teaching and learning, curriculum  development, professional and or disciplinary expertise, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. 
  • Evidence of substantial recent artistic practice and/or artistic scholarship is required. Transdiciplinary or inter-disciplinary creative experience is an asset.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills, experience in LMS platforms and educational technologies and MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams). 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals, exercise emotional maturity and discretion and maintain confidentiality of student records, etc. 
  • Teaching experience in relevant creative discipline at undergraduate level, experience with mature international and/or diverse learners preferred. 
  • Online and blended teaching modality experience preferred. 
  • Recent scholarship, publication, and presentations of artistic work / research in professional contexts is considered an asset. 
  • Able to accommodate teaching schedule expectations (i.e., 9am to 9pm or weekends), as applicable.
