Who we need

Reporting to the Vice-President (Academic) and BC Campus Principal, the Dean of Liberal Arts provides academic and professional leadership for the effective delivery of the Associate of Arts (AA) degree program in BC and liberal arts courses nationally.  Within the University’s governance structures, the Dean is a member of the Academic Council of Yorkville, the BC Provincial Senate, and chairs the BC Liberal Arts Curriculum Committee, leading program planning and development to ensure the continuing quality and currency of the AA degree program in British Columbia.

The Associate of Arts program launches in October 2024. The Dean is responsible for the program’s academic leadership and governance, including developing and leading a robust Program Advisory Committee as applicable. The Dean further oversees liberal arts offerings, working with the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program to ensure BBA students’ humanities and social sciences educational needs are met.

The Dean will ensure that all aspects of program delivery and curriculum are aligned with Yorkville's core values and signature learning outcomes. Committed to the principles of Indigeneity and reconciliation, the Dean will lead the AA program in advancing academic excellence through diversity, equity, inclusion, sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Dean oversees and recommends hiring and retention of Liberal Arts faculty in a competitive Lower Mainland market; oversees new faculty orientation and onboarding; reviews faculty according to the University’s policies; and, with the VPA / Principal, is responsible for creating and maintaining a robust academic community that encourages professional development, scholarly activity and participation in BCCAT and other cross-sector initiatives. The assistant dean, liberal arts, located in Ontario reports to the Dean for course coordination and faculty oversight in the liberal arts nationally.

The Dean works closely with the Campus Registrar and the Manager of Student Services to support students’ academic achievement, and works collaboratively with national offices for program review, development, and support.  The Dean resolves problems fairly and transparently, adjudicates AA and liberal arts student appeals, and implements academic policies, the student code of conduct, and other policies and practices as appropriate for the AA degree program and for liberal arts offerings.

The Dean represents the AA program to employers and professional bodies.
