Who we need

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic & Principal of Yorkville University’s online New Brunswick campus, the Dean of Education provides leadership for and is responsible for management of the Faculty of Education.  The Dean of Education is responsible for academic planning and governance, resolving student grievances, curriculum development and quality assurance, faculty hiring and review as well as allocation of teaching duties to faculty members. They will also  contribute to the making and management of the New Brunswick campus budget. The Dean of Education is also responsible for a working environment in which all faculty and staff can grow and thrive in support of the University’s mission and students’ academic success and wellbeing.

 

The Faculty of Education offers graduate programming at the masters and certificate levels. All programs are delivered online to both domestic and international students. Working with leadership team of associate deans and program chairs, the dean will have specific overarching responsibility for the academic management of Faculty of education programs, students, and both full-time and part-time faculty members. The dean will work with the VPA and Principal (NB) as well as other service and support units of Yorkville University to ensure an excellent student experience and quality assurance of faculty programs. The dean will also work with university leadership and faculty members to explore, propose, and implement new programming initiatives. Further, the dean will participate in academic governance, strategic planning, and university management with the VPA and Principal (NB) and the national leadership team.


The successful candidate would need to be comfortable leading and managing 100% asynchronous programs and come with prior experience as an Associate / Assistant Dean or Department Head. 

What you will do

  • Lead and manage the faculty and staff in the Faculty of Education
  • Develop and implement Faculty-level strategies to support student success and university strategic goals.  
  • Supervise and provide leadership for Faculty of Education associate deans, program chairs, faculty leads, and administrative staff.
  • Budget planning development and management.
  • Working with the Faculty of Education Faculty Hiring Committee, ensure that enough appropriately qualified full- and part-time faculty members are available.
  • Working with the Faculty of Education Curriculum Committee, ensure that curriculum and delivery of all current and future Faculty of Education programs (currently M.Ed. and Graduate Certificate in Education) meet quality assurance requirements and standards established by the University and by the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Committee.
  • Working with the Faculty of Education Program Advisory Council, ensure that the strategic direction and curriculum of the faculty’s degree programs are consistent with disciplinary, professional, and labour market expectations.
  • Contribute to the management of the New Brunswick campus through membership in the VPA and Principal’s leadership team and on the Yorkville University New Brunswick Senate.
  • Contribute to academic governance of Yorkville University through membership on the Academic Council of Yorkville University.
  • Consistent with University policy, make decision on students’ academic appeals and assist students to resolve problems and grievances.
  • Liaise with colleagues in the Admissions Department, Registrar’s Office, Teaching and Learning, Student Experience, Governance and Regulatory Affairs, and other university offices as required.
  • Support the development of high-performing academic faculty and staff, superior academic programs, and innovative teaching and learning strategies that enhance students’ academic success and wellbeing. 
  • Model and promote a positive culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness for all faculty, staff, and students. 
  • Maintain visibility and collegial relationships with relevant academic and professional colleagues and associations in Canada.
  • Provide leadership in teaching and learning strategies, course and program development, communication strategies, and student services

What you bring

  • A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Education or closely related field
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience, preferably at a post-secondary level
  • Experienced in people leadership and management
  • Professionally ranked or eligible for consideration at current institution
  • Experience supervising graduate students at MEd and doctoral levels
  • Knowledge with working in a virtual environment
  • Experience with online delivery of courses and programs
  • Experience in the public K-12 education system and/or experience in professional or corporate education and training
  • Experience overseeing the development and delivery of online education
  • A thought leadership role related to education
  • A strong track record of accomplishment in the scholarly and research community
